Starting engine and use of throttle gearbox
The throttle gearbox
The throttle has three positions – forward, neutral and reverse. It should never be slammed from forward to reverse and vice versa; pause briefly in neutral position in between.
To start the engine (Family Day Boats)
1. Ensure gear lever is in neutral.
2. Insert key into panel. Turn clockwise two clicks to the position labelled “Start.”
3. Release the key when the engine starts or after 5 seconds, whichever is first, and allow it to rest in the “Run” position.

4. If engine does not start after 2 attempts, turn the key anti-clockwise and hold for 10 seconds in the “Heat” position. Then proceed as above.
To start the engine (Water Vole Day Boat)
1. Ensure gear lever is in neutral.
2. Put key into the ignition beside the panel.
3. Turn one click clockwise.
4. Wait 10 seconds before engaging gears to move off.
